Under One Sun: How Art, Community, and Kindness Build a More Inclusive Delta
In 2021, our President, Meg Neufeld, created a beautiful piece of artwork titled Under One Sun for the @thisinitiative calendar, in collaboration with @deltapd and @cityofdeltabc. Today, its message continues to shine just as brightly:
“‘Under One Sun’ reminds us that no matter our age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, diagnosis, religion, or socio-economic status—when we lead with kindness and empathy, we are stronger together.”
At Step Forward Health Society, this message feels especially meaningful as we conclude our celebration of Pride Month. Now, more than ever, we are reminded that visibility, compassion, and community spirit are essential for building a Delta where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.
That’s why we’re thrilled to see the City of Delta’s Show Your Pride mural initiative come to life this summer. Developed in partnership with local queer, Métis/Canadian artist Chloe Groth, this interactive art project invites residents to reflect on what inclusion means to them. The large banner, adorned with the powerful message “You Belong Here”, serves as a blank canvas where community members of all ages can contribute drawings, colours, and messages of hope, kindness, and belonging.
As Mayor George V. Harvie puts it:
“This project is about more than just art—it’s about creating space for connection and conversation in our community. Everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and valued in their community.”
By creating space for collective expression, the mural echoes the values at the heart of Under One Sun: kindness, empathy, care, and compassion. And just like Meg’s original piece, this initiative helps remind us that art can be a powerful tool for building bridges and making sure everyone’s voice is heard.
Visibility and Mental Health: Why It Matters
For those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, visibility is more than symbolic—it’s a vital part of mental health and wellbeing. When we see our identities reflected in public spaces, art, and community initiatives, it reinforces that we belong. It tells us that we matter.
This is one of the many reasons Step Forward Health Society launched our 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Mental Health Support Group this year. This free group offers a safe and affirming space for youth who may otherwise feel unseen or unsupported. It’s one small but significant way we are working to break down barriers and build a Delta where no one has to struggle alone.

Get Involved:
We encourage everyone to take part in Show Your Pride this summer:
July 2 – 14: Delta City Hall
July 15 – 30: South Delta Recreation Centre
July 31 – August 15: North Delta Recreation Centre
Your contribution—whether it’s a drawing, a message, or simply showing up—helps foster a stronger, more compassionate Delta. And when the banner is unveiled at the Delta Pride Picnic on August 17, 2025, it will stand as a powerful testament to what we can create when we come together.
💚 Together, we can build a community where kindness leads the way—one that uplifts every voice, celebrates diversity, and supports mental health for all.
