Why It Matters

Too many people go without mental health support because of financial barriers or limited local services. The Step Forward Program was created to change that—ensuring that no one is left behind simply because they can’t afford help.

“We know that public systems are over-stretched and that many people go without help. Our goal is to ensure equitable access to care in Delta and across BC.”

— Meg Neufeld, President, Step Forward Health Society

"Through the Step Forward Program, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a personal level with my counsellor, for which I am very grateful. I appreciate his expertise, knowledge and commitment. He continues to support my growth, working together on my mental health, and helping me in navigating the daily difficulties associated with living with mental health difficulties. This wouldn’t have been possible without his understanding, and the generosity of the Step Forward Program. I am forever indebted to both, for his/their dedication in helping people above all else.”

"I was offered help from the Step Forward Program a few years ago. I was struggling and unable to work at that time. It was a huge relief that I qualified for the program. I needed counselling at least once a week and it was hard to pay for that. Had I not been offered assistance I may have landed myself in a worse position than I was already in.”
