Volunteer board members wanted - Delta, BC

Big mission. Volunteer board. Want in?

Here’s the short version of who we are. We’re a Delta-based charity that helps people get mental health support when cost would otherwise stand in the way. We don’t offer counselling ourselves. (We pay the pros for that.) Our board is the fundraising engine that subsidizes individual counselling from local, accredited providers. (We also sponsor and fund group programs for women in unhealthy relationships, queer youth, people living with chronic pain, and people building emotional skills through DBT.)

Here’s the honest version: we have no paid staff. Everything is done by volunteers who care a lot and have day jobs, families, and full calendars. That’s why we’re not looking for a name on a letterhead. We’re looking for people who want to dig in and get things done.

Who we’d love to hear from

If you live or work in or around Delta, and any of these sound like you, please get in touch:

  • Legal minds who can help us stay on solid ground with governance, contracts, and charity rules

  • Admin and IT people who like making systems run smoothly and keeping data safe

  • Fundraisers who know grants, donors, and events (and can make a good ask)

  • Social media and communications people who can tell our story well

  • People with lived experience of mental health challenges, of accessing care, or of the barriers that get in the way, including as a family member or supporter. You don’t have to share your story to join us. We just know the board makes better decisions when it includes people who understand what it’s like from the inside.

  • Counsellors, health professionals, and community workers who know how care works on the ground

Don’t fit neatly into a category? Come anyway. If you believe in what we do and can give some real time, we’d like to chat.

What you’re signing up for

You’ll help set direction, keep an eye on our programs and finances, and take on a hands-on project or two between meetings. Expect roughly 2-5 hours a month and a monthly board meeting. It’s a volunteer role, so there’s no pay, but you’ll work with a small, friendly team and see right away what a difference you make.

Sound like a fit?

Send a few lines about yourself and what you’d like to contribute to joanne.simonis@stepforwardhealth.ca. Or call us at 780-653-0832. We’re happy to start with a coffee or a quick call, with no pressure.

Because no one should have to go without mental health support just because of what it costs.
