Wherever you’re at, you belong here.
Hi, I'm Fiona — some people call me Foots (long, surprisingly boring story). I'm 56, I go by she or they, and I'm a spouse, a mum, a counsellor, bisexual, neurodivergent, and pretty creative. I figure all of us contain a bunch of different "us-es," and I'm into all of mine. Check out my bio. Join me at the Snack Bar… on the last Thursday of every month in the library at North Delta Secondary School from 4 to 5:30. Poke your head in and say hi!
You don’t have to have it all figured out yet.
Maybe you've known for a while. Maybe you're still figuring it out. Maybe you have words for it, or maybe you just know that something about you feels different than what people expect and you're not totally sure yet what that means.
Wherever you're at, you don't have to have it all figured out to belong here.
It's okay if things feel complicated.
A lot of queer, trans, and questioning teens carry things they don't always say out loud:
Wondering if you're "allowed" to still be figuring it out, even if people expect you to already know;
Feeling like you have to explain yourself, over and over, to people who don't quite get it;
Worrying about how friends, family, or your community might react;
Feeling like you're the only one who feels this way, even though you're not;
Carrying stress or sadness that's hard to name, let alone talk about;
Wanting connection with people who just get it, without having to explain everything first.
If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone, and there's nothing wrong with you. A lot of people carry these same feelings quietly, including other people your age, right here in our community.
A space that's actually for you… with awesome snacks!
Step Forward offers the Snack Bar — an after-school drop-in space for queer, trans and questioning teens to connect, learn, and grow, alongside other teens who understand what you're going through. It’s on the last Thursday of every month in the library at North Delta Secondary School from 4 to 5:30. Poke your head in and say hi to our group facilitator Fiona Scott and check out the snack table. It’s the best in town!
This isn't a place where you need to explain the basics or defend who you are. It's a space built around connection, support, and being around people who already get it, where you can just show up as yourself.
What you'll find:
A group of other queer, trans and questioning teens, meeting up to connect;
A judgement-free space to talk about what's actually going on for you;
Support for the mental health side of things too — because navigating identity and navigating stress, anxiety, or hard emotions often go hand in hand;
No pressure to have your identity all figured out before you show up.
You're allowed to just show up.
You don't need the right words yet. You don't need to be certain about anything. You don't need to justify why you want to be here; wanting connection and support is reason enough.
If this sounds like your thing, reach out to our team. Ask questions, find out what it's like no pressure to decide anything yet.
You deserve people in your corner. This can be one of those places.
