Meet Fiona
Hi, I'm Fiona — some people call me Foots (long, surprisingly boring story). I'm 56, I go by she or they, and I'm a spouse, a mum, a counsellor, bisexual, neurodivergent, and pretty creative. I figure all of us contain a bunch of different "us-es," and I'm into all of mine.
I was born in southern Africa, grew up in the north of Scotland, and have called Canada home for about 25 years. I've got two kids: one helps build submarines in Nova Scotia, and one is nonbinary, an actor, and a teacher. No pets right now, but I'm hoping to adopt a rescue dog soon. Dogs make everything better.
Outside of work I love being in the water (even though I'm not a great swimmer), LEGO, baking and cake decorating, sewing, reading, and singing. I'm a certified nerd and if I weren't a counsellor, I'd want to be a xenolinguist like Uhura, or a dragon trainer like Hiccup. My D&D alignment is lawful good; blame my rule-following neurodivergent brain. I was absolutely not popular in high school, I do have tattoos you're not going to see, and yes, I have a Master's in AI — so trust me, robots are not the thing to worry about.
As a counsellor, I try to be empathetic, compassionate, and validating — but honestly, my best quality is that I am completely unembarrassable. Nothing you bring to this group is going to throw me.
Here's why I do this: I grew up not really understanding who I was, without anyone to help me figure it out. Later, I raised a 2SLGBTQIA+ kid who dealt with more than their share of nastiness in high school. Of every stage of life, I think the teenage years are the hardest one to go through unsupported. I want to be the person I needed back then — and maybe the person you need right now.
